Wrap it like…
A Hidden Message
Add a paper pull-tab that reveals a private note before the recipient reaches the gift itself.

DifficultyModerateTime20–30 minCostLowBest forBoxes with flat tops
You need
- A wrapped rectangular box
- A wide paper band
- A contrasting message strip
- Scissors, ruler, tape and card for the pull tab
How to do it
- Wrap the gift normally and keep the top surface smooth.
- Cut a wide band long enough to circle the box. Before joining it, cut a neat viewing window in the top section.
- Write or draw the message on a narrower strip that can slide beneath the band.
- Attach a sturdy pull tab to one end of the message strip.
- Wrap the outer band around the box, taping it to itself—not to the sliding strip.
- Thread the message strip beneath the band and test that it moves without catching.
Key trick
The outer band needs to be snug enough to guide the strip but loose enough to let it slide. Test the mechanism before trimming the pull tab.
Variations
Reveal a joke one word at a time, use icons for a child, hide a clue to the gift, or make several windows along a longer band.
Optional product help
Sharp scissors and double-sided tape help the paper details sit cleanly. Use supplies you already own unless a project genuinely calls for something different.
